I am all on board with bringing my own bags to the store. I hate recycling the plastic bags, I hate reusing them, I hate throwing them away. I hate looking at the ugly tattered things in trees and bushes, and I shake my fist at them as they blow down the street. They shittify everything they touch. They are a scourge.
I have a number of sturdy, reusable canvas grocery bags; I've had them since December. They are hanging by the door to the garage as a reminder to take them with me to the grocery store. The problem is that since I got them I have left them at home every single time I've gone to the grocery store but once, and that time I forgot to give them to the cashier until everything was bagged up and ready to go.
Well, maybe I'll take them next time, or if not, the time after that. I project that if all goes well I'll make at least 5,200 more trips to the grocery store in my lifetime. Surely I'll remember the stupid reusable bags for one or two of those.
