I miss swimming. I could go to the heated outdoor pool, but I don't think that would be very much fun when it's cold outside.
If I can't swim, then bike riding is almost as good. Today I tooled around the old airport, which they've been developing into a master-planned town-within-a-city. Oh, I'm sorry, urban village; I'm not really up on my buzzwords.
Anyway, there was definitely some activity: Trucks, backhoes, bulldozers, construction-worker wolf whistles*. The whole place smelled of diesel fumes. All that racket seemed strange amidst so much empty space.
As much as I don't like the idea of Austin getting even bigger and more crowded, it's pretty cool to watch a whole part of the city get built from scratch.
*Because I'm just that fine.
(Pictures below the jump.)
The old air-traffic control tower with what I'm guessing will be a man-made lake in the foreground.
Some heavy equipment for you. It's not a backhoe, but it's nice.
The Children's Hospital is nearly done. It's supposed to open in the summer.
This concludes my report on the old airport. It's supposed to be
sunny again tomorrow, so maybe I can go take pictures of something else
of marginal interest. Wait and see.
