It turns out that wandering around the grounds of an abandoned state school in 95-degree heat is an
excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
I ripped off the idea from an urban exploration site (be sure to check out the rest of their expeditions; these guys are fearless), and although we didn't actually go into any of the buildings (except for Dan, for about 10 seconds), we saw plenty of good stuff today.
Originally named the Austin State School
Farm Colony, the Travis State School
was a work farm and educational facility for the mentally retarded from
the mid-1930s until 1996.
A few of the campus's buildings are being used by a charter school, but most of it is empty and slowly being taken over by weeds, wasps, and crows.
I shot mostly film today, so I'll have more pictures when I get them developed.
